I have resigned to the fact that we are going to be in this townhouse for a while {I am hoping only maybe another 5 years}. Instead of complaining almost daily that we don’t have any space and that I hate our house, I decided to channel some positive energy and transform our home into something that I love. One of my biggest complaints that I had was that I felt like our house wasn’t homey. And that would totally be all my fault.
When we first bought our house, I was excited being a new homeowner and loved decorating. Then E was born and the baby stuff invaded our territory. Then Benny was born and it got worse. But today, I say no more! I will not let the kid clutter get the best of me.
This past Sunday, I spent the entire day cleaning our second floor. If you know me, you know how much that pained me to spend my Sunday cleaning. But I feel so much now that it is done. We straightened up both kids’ rooms and finally hung the shelves in E’s room. I scored these shelves at Target on clearance for $7 for a pack of two.
I also found this height chart at Goodwill last week and thought it matched E room’s perfectly {$2!}.
I had put this frame together forever ago but just never got around to hanging it. It now has a home in the hallway outside of our master bedroom.
The hubster then did me a huge favor. He took the kids out for a few hours so I could clean in peace! I scrubbed the boys’ bathroom and put up some cute decals that I found, again, at Goodwill {$3!!!}. E loves them and I think it makes their bathroom look adorable.
After the bathroom was done, I tackled our bedroom. Let’s just say I have been promising the hubster that I would clean our room for months now, as in I was pregnant when I made that promise. I finally did it! And I have to admit, it looks so much better and I feel better when I am in there. I promised him {again} that I would never let it get that way. I hope I can keep that promise or else I may find myself single and on the streets {just kidding…maybe!}.
Now that the second floor is completely done, I am working on the first floor. We have already begun adding a few things here and there {and I will show you when it’s all done!}. But I have one dilemma. I have two rather large bay windows in the living room that have become the dumping ground for everything that doesn’t have a home {which is just about everything}. When they are cluttered with junk, it makes the room look messy, even if the rest is clean! So I need your expert opinions. What should I do with the bay windows to combat the clutter? How should I decorate them? I need your help!

Want to come clean my house?! Ok its not really that messy but I need some organization and decoration help!! It still doesn’t feel very warm – 3 1/2 years later!
Oh and PS… Does your goodwill do the 1/2 price wednesdays? One wednesday a month they are 1/2 price everything down here in Texas. I have to get in the habit of going more! Great finds you have there! Love the decals!
I did not know that! I am going to have to check that out!
I really enjoyed your post. We have moved several times in the past few years and each time, since I didn’t see it as our “forever” house, I have failed to make our house feel like a home. It’s amazing how just hanging up a few things, can make such a difference… the weekend is coming, perhaps this was the inspiration I needed
Thanks!
I so get the invasion of kiddie clutter! Seems we now live in the kids house, one day I will try to take back a little bit for us! You did a great job, and a total bargain on the height chart!
LOVE IT! I want to get some wall decals for Lucy’s room. I also like the white shelves you have up. But AUGH! How do you attack kid clutter? I feel like every time I have it under wraps, it finds new places to breed and grow!!
My aunt had storage built under her windows and they double as seating. I have found easy tutorials onlinn before.
I asked the hubster about that. He doesn’t think we can do that with ours. I wish we could because we need the storage!
I love all these little touches you’ve made to make the house more homey! We recently moved and I’ve still not added those homey items. This was great inspiration!
New follower, hope you enjoyed the weekend!
