How to Save on 10 Food Pantry Must-Haves

Champions for Kids‘s featured project for March is All You Couponing for Good. Gather your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to participate in an All You Couponing For Good project!  Use your couponing skills to find great deals on clothes, food, hygiene products, school supplies, books, and games for children. Pick up these extra items at a discount or buy-one-get-one-free.  All I needed to hear was the word coupon {random: do you say coo-pon or cue-pon?}.

I knew I wanted to make a donation to our local food pantry again so I hopped on their website to see what they were in most need of and came across a list.

Since the simple service project is aimed towards helping children, I knew I wanted to pick up some kid-friendly {and much needed} foods such as granola bars and cereal bars.

Before heading out, I went to the binder. Yes the binder: the coupon binder!

With coupons in hand, I am ready to shop!

Keeping my list in mind, I loaded my cart up with cereal, granola bars, rice, mac and cheese, and cereal bars.

I also wanted to include baby food. Having a nine month old myself, I know how fast they fly through food!

I made sure to include some Pedialyte. I always have some in the pantry because you never know when your kids’ are going to get sick! If it’s in the pantry, you don’t need to cart your sick child to the store to get some. You can stay home and give them the cuddles they need. {You can view my complete shopping trip on Google+!}

This Saturday, E and I will be dropping off our donation bag to the food pantry. Make sure you check back next week to see the follow up.

  1. This is so nice to see! I am sure it will very appreciated!

  2. Ah! I have binder too! Don’t use it as much now the kids have moved out, but when they moved out they got their own binders(what else would a great mom do for her daughters?) I love sales at CVS where they give me ECB’s back, I use coupons and I stockpile for me or collect for the foodbank. My faves? Toothpaste, shampoos. Pasta side dishes and mac n cheese are my other faves, tho from the grocery store. I pick these up when I mystery shop. I get reimbursed and there’s only so much I can eat from the stores. Oh, and I say cue-pon .

  3. What a great idea. I wish there was a food bank near me but there isn’t.

  4. Oh you are so right: You should always have Pedialyte in the pantry. I need to buy some on my next outing b/c I never have it!

  5. Love the must have list, whether for the local food pantry or our own needs. Great project!

  6. What a great idea! Fun post.

  7. Personally, a coupon binder is too much work for me. I prefer to use a coupon database and keep the inserts full in a tote bag. But I also live in town with many stores that I drive by daily. If I happen to miss a deal, I’m going right back by anyway.

  8. Really great suggestions!
