If you need to find me during the months of March through July, your best bet is to head to the ball field. Most weeks, I feel like we live there. Between practice, games, and opening celebrations, we are always running back and forth. And it’s only going to get worse as the boys get older.
On the weekends, this means we spend more time out of the house then in and we are always on the go! We may be pretty busy but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. These crazy weeks have been setting us up for some of the best summer memories ever. And it’s not even summer yet!
Music is important when it comes to these memories. Isn’t it funny how you can hear a song and you are magically transported back to a memory? It’s like you are right there, reliving it all over again.
It wasn’t that long ago that I was solo singer in the car. But now, I finally have my back up singers. It’s so fun to watch the boys latch onto a song and really get into it. It reminds me of sitting on my dad’s lap while “driving” his car on a back road. Back when those things weren’t frowned upon. The wind was blowing and we were belting out “Magic Carpet Ride”. I can vividly recall that memory as if it was yesterday!
And I only hope that the boys will have a similar memory of us singing “Uptown Funk” on one of our many baseball adventures. Or dancing along to “Happy”. Or driving them nuts while I belt out “Let It Go!”.
(Pstt! Have you ever heard a song but couldn’t remember the title? Then you need the Shazam App (available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android, etc.) to get your Coca-Cola Share a Song.)
I hope they have memories like mine of “driving” on the back roads with my Dad. Or like the memories of staying outside on summer nights with my friends catching lightening bugs and drinking our Coca-Cola’s from the glass bottles. I still don’t pass up on the opportunities of grabbing a glass bottle when I see them.
It’s amazing how something so simple, a brand that’s been a household staple for me since I was younger, can still trigger such nostalgia. When I bring home Coca-Cola for my family, I can remember moments like summer treats consisting of Coca-Cola Floats.
And it’s still there for me today. To help me make more memories with my family. With all the running around and singing in the car we do, we get really thirsty. Thankfully, there’s a CVS near the ball field and I can run and grab refreshments and snacks to keep us going! And with their buy two 20oz bottles of Coca-Cola™ products for $3, I can save a little money, too!
When we finally have a minute to breathe, I can do a little more than just grabbing a Coca-Cola. I can actually whip up a real treat for my “Boys of Summer”!
Coca-Cola Float Frozen Pops
For this recipe, you will need pop molds, Coca-Cola™ and your favorite vanilla ice cream.
You are going to put your pops together just like you would a Coca-Cola Float. Start with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream on the bottom.
You want to make sure you use a spoon and not an ice cream scooper! Use the spoon to push the ice cream all the way down into the bottom of the pop mold.
Next, top with Coca-Cola. You want to make sure the Coca-Cola is cold so it doesn’t melt the ice cream. Also, pour slowly! We all know how the soda bubbles into a foam with making a float! Let it settle down and add more. You want to fill your pop about 3/4 of the way to the top leaving room for some frozen foam!
Top with a little more ice cream to hold it all together.
Add the tops to your pop molds and place in the freezer until firm!
