So a new study came out this week and it has been on EVERY news show imaginable. It’s nice that people are concerned about the well-being of my cute fetus but I think my doctor is the one I should be listening to. Not everyone and their mother. Here are a couple of things I would like to point out about this “new” research.
1. Doctors have been telling their pregnant patients for many years now to limit the amount of caffeine they intake. Just crack open any pregnancy book or surf any pregnancy website. Most will tell you 1-2 cups of coffee (about 300 mg) a day is fine.
2. This particular study was only done with women in their first trimester. Way to get all those first trimester mommies all worried. I believe miscarriages are due to chromosomal defects which the body rejects. (If I’m wrong, please let me know). We do not need to be giving all these women even more reasons to worry that they may be doing something wrong or hurting their babies.
3. FOR THE LOVE OF CAFFEINE, please don’t take it away! A girl’s gotta have some joys during pregnancy. If I have to give up coffee, chocolate and the occasional soda, I may just have to hurt someone.
So, please don’t stare at me when I walk into Starbucks once in awhile to get my caffeine fix!
