Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ride a roller coaster in the dark? Want to visit an amusement park with your kids for Halloween that is fun but not scary? If you said yes to both of those questions then you need to visit Hersheypark in the Dark this Halloween.
My family and I lived in Hershey for around 8 years, and when my kids were little visiting Hershey Park during Halloween was always one of our favorite times to go. The crowds aren’t that bad, the weather is typically not that cold (although you just never know!) and the price to go is cheaper than it is during the regular season. Plus, you get to go trick or treating throughout the park, so have your kids dress in their Halloween costumes. It gets another wearing out of the costume plus you get delicious Hershey chocolates to snack on.
One of the reasons that I really like Hersheypark in the Dark is that it isn’t scary at all, so it really is age appropriate for even the littlest kids in your family. With three roller coasters open plus lots of kiddie rides to chose from, everyone will have a great time riding the rides, collecting treats and spending a great night together. Adding to the fun, the lights on Lightning Racer, Wildcat, and Comet are turned off at 9 p.m. so you can ride those roller coasters in the dark!
One thing to keep in mind is that there are reduced hours for admission. It is only open on the weekends and doesn’t open until 5 p.m. on Fridays and noon on Saturdays and Sundays. You can still plan a great weekend adventure however and save some money too when you take advantage of the preview plan. For more information about when they are open make sure to check out the Hersheypark website before you go by clicking here.
When I am asked for ways to save money on visiting Hersheypark this is always my first suggestion: If you are planning on staying overnight, stay the night before you want to visit the park. Then use the preview option to head to the park for a few hours. This information is taken directly from the Hersheypark website:
Purchase a regular full-day admission ticket for tomorrow, 2-1/2* hours prior to Park closing, and be our guest FREE for the remainder of that evening. (*3-1/2 hours for 11 pm closing)
- 8 PM Closing Admission after 5:30 PM
- 10 & 11 PM Closing Admission after 7:30 PM
Here is an example: If you want to visit on a Saturday and plan on staying overnight, then make your hotel reservation for Friday night, head to the park for a few hours on Friday and then visit all day on Saturday. You can use the hours before the park opens on Saturday at noon to swim at your hotel or to grab brunch or lunch at one of the many great restaurants in Hershey or to visit Zoo America. It will also save you money on food if you eat before you head into the park.
Even if you visit Zoo America early in the day you must make sure to visit during the evening for their Creatures of the Night. During Creatures of the Night they are open extended nighttime hours so that visitors can see the animals and get a peek into their nighttime habits. Make sure to bring a flashlight for this awesome experience. (Zoo America admission is included in your Hersheypark admission ticket.)
All in all, Halloween is a great time to visit Hersheypark with your family! My family loves it and we can’t wait to visit again this year.
