We are in the final days before the big premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We have our tickets purchased and we are just patiently waiting for Saturday at 9 am.
I will admit, that I was never a Star Wars fan growing up. In fact, I didn’t see the movies until a few years ago. Shocking I know. And I have my children to thank for that one. My oldest was hooked from the moment the opening credits rolled. His little brother has been singing the theme song since he started to talk.
It’s ingrained in them. While my love for Star Wars is new, it’s all because of their love for the movies. To see them so excited about it. To see their father get excited right along with them. I can not wait to see the new movie through their eyes on Saturday.
To get us even more excited, we have been doing a little Star Wars prep in the house. From grabbing any and all specially marked Star Wars food (especially those that come with a special Star Wars toy like the C3PO we got in our Star Wars™ Cookie Crisp®!) to having light saber fights with our Star Wars™ Go-Gurt, we are ready! And seeing that I just never do anything half-way, I had to make some Star Wars cupcakes with my two favorite characters: Princess Leia and Chewbacca.
Star Wars Cupcakes
For the cupcake batter, you will need, 2 1/4 cups cake flour, 1 cup milk, 6 large eggs white, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar, 4 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter.
Start by mixing the milk, egg whites, and vanilla together in a medium bowl until blended. Set aside. Next, mix together your cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Cut the butter into cubes and add to the bowl. Mix well with an electric mixer for about 2 minutes until the butter is combined. Add the milk mixture and beat for another 2 minutes on medium speed.
Pour your batter into greased or lined cupcake pan. Makes 12-18 cupcakes. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
After your cupcakes are done, let cool. Once cool, you are ready to make your Star Wars Cupcakes. Gather your supplies. You will need Star Wars™ Cookie Crisp®, Star Wars™ Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal® (crush in food processor), vanilla and chocolate frosting, and edible eyes.
For Princess Leia, start by doing a crumb coat with vanilla icing for her face.
Next, pipe chocolate frosting for her hair. Place one Cookie Crisp one either side for her buns.
Add two edible eyes and a heart sprinkle for her mouth.
For Chewbacca, pipe chocolate frosting as fur. Start around the edges and work your way in.
Top with two edible eyes and dust with your crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch to add to his fur.
The possibilities are endless when creating your Star Wars cupcakes!
Turn your favorite Star Wars characters into cupcakes with specially marked General Mills Star Wars™ cereals! Grab some the next time you are shopping at Walmart!
