Summer Memories

The weather is becoming more summer-like here in the Philadelphia region. Pants have been packed away along with coats and sweatshirts. The kids are running around in shorts and bare feet {and yes, they are both running around}. The warmer weather means I am planning more meals to be enjoyed on the grill {aka I don’t have to cook}.

Cooking on the grill means eating outside. Enjoying the evening cool breeze on the deck. Letting the kids stay up later to play outside. Grass stained knees. The grass littered with bubbles.

One of our favorite things to cook in the summer are simple hamburgers along with fresh corn on the cob and sweet baked beans. I couldn’t even begin to count how many times we ate that exact meal last year. Too many to count.

Just this past week, we fired up the grill for dinner. Instead of making a regular hamburger for the kids, I decided to make sliders for them. Sliders are the perfect size for the kids. Easy to handle and they aren’t overwhelming for kids who like put up a struggle with dinner.

While gathering the grill supplies, my trusty helper grabbed the Kraft Singles to top off his burger. Getting the cheese ready for the burgers is his favorite task! I think it’s because he can sneak a slice for a pre-dinner snack.

As luck would have it, there was no fighting with dinner and everyone was left with a full tummy. Less arguing about eating dinner means more time to enjoy our time outside before the sunsets. It also means more time for more summer memories.

What are some of your favorite summer memories?

  1. I haven’t tried making sliders yet but I have considered it for the little ones. I love the warmer weather. I can do with out the humidity. It’s been nice and cool here but in the 80’s and 90’s all around us. I love the lake breeze. Love grilling out. Isn’t it nice the kids can stay outside much longer and tire themselves out.

  2. If I could relive my childhood, I would have much more fun, because once you join the workforce, there is not much time for fun, anymore. I would play more, use my imagination more, and romp around more. If I had children or grandchildren, which I do not, I would tell them this, because it is not a fact you are told as a child. When you are a child your parents, or at least mine, told me that I had to work hard in school to prepare for the future.
