We played some fun outdoor games with Banana Boat® as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #BestSummerEver
We are in week two of our summer break and I am already running out of ideas for the kids. Yup, even with my list of 101 things to do this summer they are still complaining that they are bored. Well, only one of them is: my oldest. It seems that he doesn’t remember the concept of nap time/quiet time. That’s my time. Time to work. Time to straighten up. Time to just be by myself.
I will admit that I started getting frustrated with him. It’s really not his fault. He’s too old for a nap but I believe that every kid needs a little down time during the day, especially on hot summer days. Instead of being frustrated day in and day out, I decided I should be capitalizing on this break time. Instead of pushing him away, I should be doing things with him. After all, it won’t be long that he won’t want to have anything to do with me.
To come up with some ideas, we hit the local dollar store and grabbed some quick and easy outdoor games that we could play together. Here’s what we came up with!
3 Outdoor Family Games
Rock Tic Tac Toe
All you need are some rocks, a chalkboard marker or paint, and a tic tac toe board. I made mine from a side of a cardboard box and covered it with duct tape!
Our deck stays out of the sun for most of the day so it’s enjoyable to sit out there and not sweat out butts off while playing. Can someone explain to me how he beats me every single time?
When Ethan saw the large foam die at the dollar store, he had to have them. He has never played Yahtzee before but no time like the present to teach him, right? You can also use these to play Farkle.
We grabbed some hula hoops and ball and the rest was history! Ethan decided that the two large hoops were worth 5 and 10 points, while the smaller hoops should be 25 and 50. We went back and forth tossing the ball seeing who could get the highest score. You could use more than 4 hoops or even make a frisbee golf course with the hula hoops.
If you are going to be outside with the kids, you have to make sure you keep your skin protected! You know how on the airplane they instruct you to put your oxygen mask on first. I mean you can’t help the kids if you pass out, right? Same with sunscreen. We worry so much about lathering the kids up that most of the time we forget about ourselves! But it doesn’t have to be that way.
