A Balanced Snack: Alpine Lace® Deli Cheese & Fruit Kabobs

Last month I did something I thought I would never do again. I joined the gym. I have previously held two gym memberships. I was all gung ho at the beginning but then I just stopped going and wasted a bunch of money.

This time? Well, this time will be different. I hope.

I have been logging my time at the gym and pushing myself to go. It doesn’t help that I have mini-trainer that asks me every morning if we are going. And if we aren’t, I’m met with a “Well, why not?” in a tone that not so subtlety says “You better have a good excuse.”

Now that I am getting into a good routine with going to the gym, it’s time to focus on my eating. I’ve fallen into a really bad habit. Our days are pretty crazy between both boys being in school and after school activities. Someone also needs to be dropped off or picked up and, oh, don’t forget, we need to go to the gym at some point as well.

During all of that running around, eating kinda takes a back seat. I chug down one too many cups of coffee and before I know it, lunch time has come and gone and I’m hungry. I push off eating until dinner time and then it’s “must eat all the things.”

It has to stop.

Since I’m finding that I don’t have a lot of time to eat breakfast or lunch, I’m breaking them into mini-meals or snacks. It’s working. I’m feeling full and I’m not eating the entire contents of the refrigerator every night.

One of the latest snacks, I have been munching on is fruit and cheese. It’s simple. It’s easy to have on hand. And, look at that, the kids want to eat it too!

To help encourage their healthy eating habits, I thought I would turn this new favorite snack of ours into something fun.

Yup. Kabobs. Who doesn’t love a kabob? The kids love saying it and they are so simple to make.

  1. I just bought some Alpine Lace Swiss Cheese and am definitely going to try your kabobs in addition to my own healthy snacks! Really great post!

  2. YUMMY! One of my all time favorite snacks is apples and grapes with cheese. I love sweet and savory snacks, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise your diet for unhealthy choices like chips and ice-cream, am I right? I will definitely be doing some of these for my kids lunches as well. Apples might not hold up if I cut them, but those grapes definitely will!
