Family Memories with Goldfish Crackers

There are certain things from my childhood that stand out so vividly in my mind. Those memories seem to always be present in my day to day moments. The jar of cheese curls on my grandfather’s kitchen counter. The bag of Goldfish crackers in my grandmother’s pantry. The soft pink mints in the glass jar in my grandmother’s dining room. I am always reminded of them and the moments we shared every single time I see them.
I just can not help but think of my grandparents whenever I pull out the Goldfish crackers that the kids seem to want for snack every single day. When I open a new bag, I am instantly back in their kitchen waiting for my share of Goldfish crackers. Who knew crackers would be so sentimental?
But it’s really not about the food itself. I mean, everyone loves Goldfish crackers, right? But what I love the most about them is that they make me think about my grandparents who are no longer here. It puts a little smile on my face and, in my mind, I can see their faces. I can be in their kitchen one more time. I can share a memory, again.
While I am sure my children can’t possibly understand the sentimental value they hold for me, we are creating our own new memories over a classic snack. To help us remember our memories this year, we are creating a memory time capsule. All you need is a jar or a box to get yourself started!
I created these papers for the kids (and us) to jot down a memory after it happens. From the big ones (trips and milestones) to the little ones (favorite movies, what made us laugh a lot), we will be ready to preserve our family memories this year. Along with our journal papers, we’ll throw in ticket stubs, momentos, and souvenirs to help us commemorate the fun we had as a family this year.

We love goldfish. I don’t remember them as a kid but my kids definitely will. They use to be a staple. I also like the time capsule idea.
What a great way to preserve memories! I love that family time capsule idea! We have a lot of fond memories with Goldfish crackers too! #client
This is such a fantastic idea and something that your children will definitely cherish when they look back on it. I love your sentiment with Goldfish crackers and your grandparents. For me it was M&Ms and my grandfather. He always had some waiting for me when we visited. To this day, whenever I see or eat one, I think of him.
I found you through Totally Talented Tuesdays. This is a great idea. Thanks for the pdf. I g+’d you. 🙂
I really love the family time capsule idea. Pinning. I can see our family doing this. I would love if you linked this up to Totally Terrific Tuesday! Hope to see you there!

Thanks for sharing this week at the Art of Home-Making Mondays!
Love your jar! I was really meaning to start one of these last year and just never got around to it …You know what happens when you have the ‘perfect’ idea of how that jar should look… Well I might still have that idea, BUT this time we can just start putting those memories into any old jar in the mean while! 😉
