Last weekend, I set out on a mission to take Valentine’s Day photos of the boys. It is very rare that I can do a true photo shoot with these two. One, they don’t sit still for me. Two, they don’t cooperate for me. But I had one thing going for me.
Mike was home.
I knew they would listen to him and he would help wrangle them so I could get what I wanted needed.
When I was thinking about the setup I wanted, I thought about just using my gray seamless paper as a backdrop with the boys in red t-shirts. Then I remembered that I grabbed a fleece Valentine’s blanket at Target on clearance last year. I use fleece blankets as backdrops all the time for my newborn sessions. They are perfect! They don’t wrinkle and they photograph well. This tablecloth on Amazon would work as well!
I stretched the fleece blanket on my backdrop stand. It was a little tricky because I needed to keep the hearts straight. Once I had it the way I wanted, I clamped it tight.
To achieve a nice clean seam at the bottom, I grabbed some leftover laminate flooring we had laying around. I put 5 pieces together to make a hard, flat surface for the boys to stand on. These foam interlocking tiles I found on Amazon would work just as well!
Voila! Instant photo backdrop created with things all found around the house. I’m not going to lie. Things didn’t go smoothly. There was some goofing off.
There was some frustration {Why can’t they look at the camera? Stop looking at my feet!}.
And, there may have been a little yelling. Β But it was totally worth it!

Wow! So cool. You did get a good shot, at last.
Okay, you ARE going to share this at my Fabulously Frugal Thursday linky ’cause this is AWESOME! I don’t know why I make family pictures so complicated sometimes!
What an excellent idea! Love it! I also love that I can adapt it for my unprofessional photography skills!
What a cool idea! And I love the shots! π
This is awesome!! And easy, all I need is the piece of flooring. That’s a cool idea.
What an easy trick! I’m going to search those clearance bins now! π
Ok personally I LOVED the first shot. I would rather see them being, well themselves than anything else ever..
Thanks so much for the idea! Hubby is laying our laminate downstairs as I type and I’m sure we’ll have leftover and I’m so gonna do this!
