Dying Easter Eggs
Ethan has been asking us for weeks to dye Easter eggs. Weeks, people! He asked me every day last week until I finally gave up in and boiled a bunch of eggs. He even insisted on helping me. He stared at that pot of water waiting patiently to see the bubbles in the water. A 4 year old obviously doesn’t understand that a watched pot doesn’t boil.
When the bubbles started to appear, he exclaimed “The eggs are done! They are chickens now!”
Um, not so much.
Since we were heading to my parents for dinner, we brought our hard boiled eggs and Easter egg dying kit with us. I knew my parents would love to dye eggs with the kids.
Once again, Ethan waited patiently {as patiently as a 4 year old can} while the tables dissolved. He gave them a little help by stirring the vinegar. Finally it was time to get down to dying!
Ethan got right down to business.
Benny on the other hand needed a little help.
I had remembered seeing on Pinterest that you could use a whisk to help little hands dye Easter eggs. Since Pinterest has never really failed me, I decided to give it a try. It was a hit for Ben!
I think it really helped him enjoy the whole process. I thought for sure he would dye one egg and be done.
But he surprised me and dyed 6 eggs!
Now, what to do with all those eggs?!
Looks like fun! I’m hoping to do some dying on Friday as part of our baking day.
I would have never thought of the whisk. My kids will eat boiled eggs in a heartbeat, that and deviled eggs lol.
The whisk is a great idea! We still have to get to this this week. H is going to be a ton of fun this year with it:/ The boys looked like they had a GREAT time!
The whisk is a brilliant idea! And their eggs turned out awesome! π
Great tip!! I wish I thought of that last night when we dyed ours π
I enjoyed reading the story and how things turned out, but what I liked most was just how beautiful all your pictures were!
Cute idea! I am skipping egg dying this year I think, unless it happens this weekend while we are at Great Grandmas! I never know what to do with the eggs after!
They look awesome! Tossing perhaps? I’m skipping dying this year, I think, we’ll see.
I’ve seen the wisk trick on Pinterest too, but was hesitant to try it. Now that you’ve ‘Pintested’ it, I’m totally going to do it! Thanks for sharing the tip!
A silicone whisk is even easier to manipulate an egg in and out of. I mean, if you’re helplessly clumsy like I am. π Looks like they had a great time. Childhood memories being made.
Easter is so much fun and dying the eggs is the BEST! Great post. π
