Hershey Theatre: A Local Theatre with Big City Feels
Hershey Theatre is proud to host the finest in touring Broadway shows, classical music, dance attractions, and world-renowned entertainers.
I’ve partnered with Hershey Theater to share more of their Broadway series with you!
I love going to Broadway shows…I just don’t get to go to actual Broadway that often! Which is why when Broadways shows tour nearby I try to go every chance I can.
I have seen shows in Philadelphia and it wasn’t until this past Friday that i saw a show at the Hershey Theatre! The Hershey Theatre has some amazing shows coming this season that you are not going to want to miss.
About the Hershey Theatre
Located in downtown Hershey, Pennsylvania, the magnificent Hershey Theatre is the area’s premier performing arts center, presenting the finest in touring Broadway shows, classical music and dance attractions, and world-renowned entertainers.
The Hershey Theatre was conceived by Milton S. Hershey in the early twentieth century. Lancaster architect C. Emlen Urban drew the plans for the Community Center Building in 1915; however, it was built between 1929 and 1933 as part of Mr. Hershey’s “Great Building Campaign” of the Great Depression, which also produced such Hershey landmarks as The Hotel Hershey, the Hersheypark Arena, and the Hersheypark Stadium.
When next visiting the Hershey Theatre, count the number of lions that the architect placed throughout the theatre. Hint: There are more than eighteen!
This past Friday, I was invited to see Dirty Dancing at the Hershey Theatre. It was my first time seeing a show there and I was really impressed! I’ve been in theatres in downtown Philly and on Broadway and the Hershey Theatre ranks up there as one of my favorite theatres.
Old theatres are the best to see a show! You almost feel like you are transported back to a more simple time. While the technology in the theatre has changed since 1933, the architecture has remained the same. It’s truly a hidden gem and I can not wait to see more shows there!
Pre-Show Eats
The location of the Hershey Theatre puts you right in the middle of some great places to eat before your show. And they are all in walking distance! Park at the theatre and cross the street to grab a bite at Houlihans, Devon Seafood & Steak, or Feniccis. If you have plenty of time before the show, you can eat at any of the other great Hershey Restaurants like Harvest, Fire & Grain, the Bear’s Den, and more!
