All of my organs are now developed and some are even functioning just as they will after I am born. More and more subcutaneous fat is forming so my wrinkles are disappearing slowly but surely. My skin has become a rosy color and the fine downy hair that was on my skin is replaced with vernix caseosa. My “baby cream cheese” prevents my skin from drying out. The fine downy hair comes off and floats in the amniotic fluid. Because I am taking small sips of amniotic fluid, I swallows these hairs which then tickle and stimulate my intestines, which help in their function after birth. For the time being, I must continue to grow. I am now about 16 inches long and weighs about 4 ½ pounds. For the next four weeks on I will gain up to a couple of ounces a day. Depending on the time of my birth I will become a seven-, eight-, nine- or ten-pounder (for mommy’s sake, let’s hope I stay around the seven to eight pound range).
