This weekend felt like summer! Saturday was 80 degree weather with the sun shining and I may have gotten a little sun burn. That day really made me forget about the long, cold, snowy winter we had endured. It also got me in the mood for some of our favorite summer things: playing outside, baseball, and summer drinks, like Kool-Aid.
While at WalMart this weekend, I attended a demo for the new Kool-Aid Easy Mix and it really got me thinking about how Kool-Aid was really present in my childhood.
I don’t know about you but growing up we always had a pitcher of Kool-Aid in the fridge. I also may or may not have experimented and used it to dye my hair when I was teenager. I was such a rebel, I’m telling ya. But that had me thinking. Kool-Aid could be used for so much more than just a drink.
Take for example, dyeing Easter eggs with Kool-Aid. We tried it this year and it worked amazing. It smelled great and the kids had a lot of fun (and a hard time not drinking the dye).
Since that was so successful, I decided to try my hand at another Kool-Aid hack: candy dots! Yes, those same candy dots you remember from your childhood. The candy dots that, not matter careful you were peeling, you still ended up eating paper with your dots.
Kool-Aid Candy Dots
To make your own Kool-Aid Candy Dots, you will need:
- Kool-Aid Easy Mix in Cherry, Grape, and Tropical Punch
- 1.5 cups powdered sugar
- 1 egg white
That’s it!
With a hand or electric mixer, whip the egg white into the powdered sugar. Beat for about 4-5 minutes. Divide into 3 bowls.
Next, mix 1/2 teaspoon of each Kool-Aid Easy Mix flavor into your sugar mixture. Mix well!
Scoop your mixture into a plastic baggie and snip off a small tip. Pipe into dots onto 2-inch wide parchment paper.
Let your candy dots dry overnight!
And there you have it! Kool-Aid Candy Dots just like the ones you remembered from your childhood…minus the paper backing!
Kool-Aid Easy Mix is easy and convenient to make, just add water! You can make it in a pitcher or just make it by the glass. Kool-Aid Easy Mix is a quick, refreshing beverage the whole family will enjoy with 50% less sugar than leading regular sodas! Grab some the next time you’re at WalMart!
I LOVE this idea! Grabbing some Kool-Aid Easy Mix the next time we are at Walmart and making this fun treat as a surprise for the kids! #client
So fun! I could make these to decorate a cake or color coordinate them for my son’s high school graduation party.
Grandma buys the kids candy dots all the time. I never thought about making them homemade, but looking forward to trying them. Pinning them to try later 🙂
