Overnight Oats

This no-cook overnight oatmeal, made with oats, chia seeds, Greek yogurt, and fruit, is a hearty, on-the-go breakfast option for busy mornings.

Overnight oats are super popular and I totally understand why! It’s a quick and easy way to enjoy oatmeal without a lot of fuss.

The best part? There’s no cooking involved and that’s always a positive in my book. You can prep these on Sunday and grab and go every morning. In fact, the longer the oats sit in the fridge, the better they are!

Here’s the kicker: I am not a fan of oatmeal. But I am a fan overnight oats! It’s just the right consistency and texture and I love that I can bulk it up with fresh fruit, nuts, and, of course, a little chocolate.

What are Overnight Oats?

Overnight oats are an alternative way of preparing oatmeal. Instead of boiling oats the traditional way, overnight oats are mixed with milk and left overnight in the fridge, allowing the oats and seeds to hydrate. The oats absorb the liquid, soften up, and form that oatmeal texture you are craving. Add in some extras, like chia seeds, Greek yogurt, fruit, vanilla, flax, or peanut butter, and you have yourself a delicious and healthy breakfast!

How to Make Overnight Oats

To make overnight oats, you will need:

  • 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup (heaping) rolled oats
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Whisk your ingredients together and place in a mason jar. Place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours but overnight is best!

Tips for Making Overnight Oats

  • For best results, let your oats soak in the fridge for at least 4 hours. Overnight is best but if you can’t wait a few hours are okay.
  • If you like crunch, throw in some toppings, like nuts or granola, in the morning before you eat your overnight oats.
  • It is best to use rolled oats! Skip the instant oats as they are already flavored and have a bunch of add-ins already.
