Savoring the Last Summer Moments

I was asked by The J.M. Smucker Company to share how we prepare for a SNACKACTION! All opinions are my own.

As the close of summer is getting near, I am scrambling to soak up the days with the boys. For whatever reasons, I feel like we didn’t do enough. One of the things I really wanted to start this summer was some more one-on-one time with them. My husband could take one to an activity and me and the other would go off and do our thing. We would switch the next time. One-on-one time is really important to the kids, especially as our free time with each other gets less and less.

The other day, I packed up some snacks and told my youngest we were going on a mommy-son date. Just the two of us! He was so excited. We used to spend a lot of time together before he started pre-school. I think we both kind of miss that time together.

Where did we go? Nowhere fancy. Just the park! But to him, it was super special because he got mommy all to himself. He grabbed the snack bag and ran ahead of me picking out the perfect bench for our little date.

Over our little date in the park, I learned that his favorite dinosaur is a Brachiosaurus and he’s really excited about soccer starting. He wasn’t even distracted by the playground just behind us. He just wanted to sit and chat…and eat.

It wasn’t a long date, enough time to eat some grapes and a Smucker’s Fruit Fulls. But it was enough time for me to sit and learn a little bit more about this cool kid. We think we know what’s going on with our kids and their likes and dislikes…until we actually sit down and have a conversation with them!

Since we had such a successful first outing, my husband and I are making it a priority to put these little one-on-one dates on the calendar with the kids.
