I am not a morning person. Never have been. Never will. But now that the kids are back to school, there is no more sleeping in, and I have to be up and at ’em in the morning. Whether I like it or not.
Since they are back in school, it also means that I have more time to get things done without any interruptions. From house work to blog work, I have a huge chunk of time without anyone home and I have to use that to my advantage. But the only thing slowing me down is my lack of morning peppiness. I do have a few tricks that I use to get myself going in the morning so that I can have a productive day and I am sharing them with my fellow non-morning friends!
Simple Ways to Kick-Start Your Morning
The simplest way to kick-start your morning is to get out of bed. It’s so tempting to just lay in bed a few extra minutes. But those few extra minutes can turn into a half-hour and before you know it, everyone is running late. As much as it pains me to hop right out of bed, I have to! Alright, I don’t really pop out of bed, it’s more like rolling out of bed. But I am out of the bed and that’s all that counts! I even have an alarm set so that I have even more reason to get up. No excuses!
Eat breakfast. And 3 cups of coffee doesn’t count as breakfast. I will admit that I am guilty of just having coffee for breakfast and it sets me up for failure for the rest of the day. To make sure I eat breakfast, I keep convenient meals on hand, like the Jimmy Dean® Loaded Potato Bowl. There’s no excuse not to eat breakfast when you have a Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowl in the freezer.
Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls have 21-23 grams of protein which is exactly what I need in the morning! With new flavors made with premium ingredients such as seasoned red potatoes, specialty sauces, and other unique ingredients depending on the flavor, there is a breakfast bowl for everyone! Save $0.75 on Jimmy Dean 9 oz. Bowls: Loaded Potato Bowl, Burrito Bowl, or Ranchero Steak & Eggs Bowl available in the frozen food aisle at ACME!
Write out your to-do list. I have found if I write out my to-do list for the day first thing in the morning, I accomplish more. I just do a straight brain dump of all of the things I would like to get done before the kids get done. I then review the list and highlight the must-dos and start there. I take it one task at a time or it can get overwhelming. You can do this in a notebook, on a piece of scrap paper, or, in your daily planner.
Take a shower. It’s really tempting to just stay in your pjs and lounge around in the morning but you must avoid the temptation! Hop in the shower (it will help wake you up) and you will feel ready to tackle your day. I have found on the days I shower early in the morning, the more productive I am for the day. It’s one last thing I have to worry about, and I can check it off my mental list.
Mornings are not always easy, but there are ways to make them more manageable. Choose at least a few of the above tips to change your mornings from blah to productive with minimal effort. Soon, even if you don’t consider yourself a “morning person” like me, you may find yourself looking forward to your morning rituals as they become a time to kick-start your day in an amazing way.
