Are We There Yet: #VisitLancaster
I received a complimentary trip to Lancaster, PA . All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We have so many things planned for the upcoming months. From the Jersey Shore to Pittsburgh and every where between, this family will be hitting the road. And who knows what else might end up on the travel itinerary! Up first, we are visiting Amish Country in Lancaster, PA! We have visited Lancaster many times. Being only 45 minutes away makes it easy! Traveling to Lancaster is a great experience, especially for kids, there are so many things for them to do! This weekend, we are experiencing some new things in Lancaster and visiting some of our old favorites.
Things to Do in Lancaster, PA
1. Strasburg Railroad: The Strasburg Railroad is hands-down one of our favorite attractions to visit in Lancaster. When you have boys obsessed with trains, you can not go wrong! Strasburg Rail Road is one of Pennsylvania’s leading family attractions and is home to museum quality, working, turn-of-the century steam locomotives, freight cars, dining cars, private cars and one of the largest fleets of historic wooden passenger cars in the world. We will be coming back in a few weeks for Day Out with Thomas. But, keep it on the down low, the boys don’t know yet!
2. The Choo Choo Barn: We visited the Choo Choo Barn for the first time last year. Ethan was enthralled to watch all of the model trains zoom around. Of course, his favorite was the Thomas the Train display! The Choo Choo Barn –Traintown, U.S.A.® – located in Strasburg, PA, features more than 150 animations and 22 operating trains, this 1,700 square foot handcrafted, work-of-art is packed with small-scale local landmarks and detailed scenes from Lancaster County.
3. The Amish Village: This will be our first visit to the Amish Village and I am really looking forward to it. We will be experiencing the Amish way of life – up close – and learn how Lancaster County’s Amish live. Located in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, and just down the road from Sight & Sound Theatre, The Amish Village sprawls across 12 acres of farmland. Visitors can take a guided tour of an authentic Amish farmhouse and explore the farm property at their leisure.
4. Bird-in-Hand Inn: We will be staying at the wonderful Bird-in-Hand Inn during our stay in Lancaster, PA. The Bird-in-Hand Family Inn features 125 comfortable, well-equipped rooms and a family restaurant. There are also three indoor and outdoor pools and a hot tub to enjoy so I have to remember to pack the bathing suits! There is also a lighted tennis courts, a playground, mini golf, a game room and paths to explore the 10-acre property. Perfect for family visits!
Make sure you check back next week to see how our trip to Lancaster went! Looking for more of our travel posts? Check out how we travel with the kids!

We visited Lancaster last year, it’s a charming town 🙂
I live in the next county! We’ll be so close 😀 Hope you guys have an awesome time!
I am from Lancaster, so we don’t really do any of the above attractions. Not too far away Bird-In-Hand is a farm that has camels. They aren’t always, but they have at least a handful of them. 🙂 I am a fan of yours on facebook – I posted a picture about two weeks ago when I drove past and they were down by the road.
