Top Travel Apps for Summer 2013
This summer, we are hitting the road a lot and visiting locations, both old and new. When traveling, I have a few must have apps that help make the trips run smoothly.
Must-Have Travel Apps
1. Hop Stop: I used the app last year for BlogHer ’12. Just plug in where you need to go and it will tell you how to get there. Taking the subway? This is the perfect app for you!
2. Tripit: This app saves paper and stress by organizing all your reservations into one intinerary. Just forward every confirmation email to plans@tripit.com.
3. SitOrSquat Restroom Finder: When you gotta go, you gotta go. SitOrSquat, from Procter & Gamble, uses a mobile device’s GPS to find and map nearby public restrooms. It also lets users rate what they find (Sit for “good” and Squat for “could be better”) and add facilities to the app’s database of more than 100,000 public restrooms.
4. Wolfram Sun Exposure Reference: It gives people guidance about what sun protection factor they should use based on the ultraviolet radiation index, time of day, location and their skin type. With the help of weather service satellite data, the app also forecasts the UV levels for five days. Bonus features include sunrise and sunset time, the current position of the sun and the weather forecast. Remember advisory guides: they can’t actually prevent burning.
5. Goby: This app pinpoints the neighborhood hot spots {including museums, hotels, eateries, and more} in your vicinity. But its true value comes in finding nearby events. You’ll discover concerts, plays, and more right around the corner.
