Our lazy summer mornings will be coming to an end soon and the hustle to get out the door in the morning will begin. One of the things that must happen every morning is a proper breakfast before heading off to school! If the kids have good nutrition at home, it will give them the energy they need to get through the day, and give their brain what it needs to think.
We know that when kids don’t eat breakfast or eat well can be too tired throughout the school day. This makes it difficult to learn when you can’t stay awake! While morning time can be a big rush out the door, it’s important to take the time for breakfast each and every day.
How do I make this happen? Stocking up on fast breakfast choices, like Eggo Waffles and Pancakes, when I am shopping at Target so there are no excuses! It’s really easy to provide a nutritious breakfast when you have these choices on hand.
Waffle Breakfast Pizzas
While some days we go the classic route for our waffles, there are some days when we jazz it up a bit! By adding things like peanut butter and fruit to our waffles, I am adding more fuel for the kids to use during the school day giving them an extra boost.
For your waffle breakfast pizzas, you will need:
- Eggo Waffles (your choice!)
- Fresh fruit: bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and kiwi
- Spreads: peanut butter, cream cheese, fruit dip
- Toppings: crushed pineapples, syrup, chocolate chips, chocolate syrup
It doesn’t get easier than this, folks! If you have the time, you can set up a Waffle Bar and let the kids go to town and make their own pizzas. This is a great first day of school tradition we are starting this year! You never know what they are going to create when you leave it up to their little brains.
Here are some of our favorites!
Protein Boost
Give your homestyle waffle a boost buy adding a layer of peanut butter. Then top with banana slices! Sprinkle a few chocolate chips on top for an extra treat.
Berry Blast
This one is my personal favorite! A layer of vanilla fruit dip (or cream cheese) topped with sliced strawberries and blueberries. Top with a little whipped cream.
Banana Split
Take a dessert classic and make it for breakfast! Top your homestyle waffle with strawberry and banana slices. Top with crushed pineapples and a little bit chocolate syrup. Finish it off with a little whipped cream.
Fruit Tart
Another variation of the berry blast is to make a fruit tart with your waffles! Again, add a layer of vanilla fruit dip. Place a kiwi slice in the middle of your waffle. Arrange strawberries and blueberries around the kiwi!
The possibilities are literally endless when you set up a Waffle Breakfast Bar! Let the kids get creative and know that they are starting the morning off on the right foot!
To get the kid in the creative mode, download and print the FREE Crayola activity booklet available on target.com/Crayola! They can sit and color while you are setting up their First Day of School Waffle Bar and help get their creative juices flowing!
I’d have the say the Banana Split would be my favorite, but they all look great — and FUN for back to school! My kids will love doing something like this – thanks for the idea.
