You Know How to Find Me

I honestly do not know what people did before e-mail. E-mail makes it so much easier to keep in touch with family, friends, and, sometimes unfortunately, work.

Let’s take a look back in the olden days, B.E. (before e-mail). If you wanted to talk to a friend, you picked up the phone. People had pen pals and would send snail mail. And when you were on vacation, you sent a post-

Today, A.E. (after e-mail), who needs a telephone to talk to a friend when you can instantly shoot off an e-mail to say “Hey, what’s up?”. You get an almost immediate response and can carry on a conversation without any awkward pauses. In fact, most of my friends know that they will get a faster response if they e-mail me instead of calling me. Because let’s face it, who wants to actually talk on the phone? I hate it. I much rather respond via e-mail. I know, I know, it’s so impersonal. But it’s how I roll.

As for pen pals, I am pretty sure the youngin’s these days probably don’t know what a pen pal is. Granted, I have turned a lot of online friends into in-real-life friends (IRL) all to the thanks of e-mail. We talk literally everyday (sometimes all day) through e-mail. They are there when I have a crazy thought pop in my head, when I need to share something TMI, or just need a laugh. I honestly do not know if we would be as close as we are if it weren’t for e-mail!

I wish I could say that I could remember the last time I sent a post card but I would be lying. Honestly, I don’t know if I ever have sent a postcard. When I’m on vacation, I either keep in touch again through e-mail or other social media avenues or I unplug. Oh, who am I kidding, I very rarely unplug {I really need to do that more often though}. Today, people are only sending postcards to that ever popular secret sharing website.

I would probably be lost without e-mail. I can always check it when I want to thanks to my crackberry (which I hate, fyi), iPad or laptop. A little insane? Probably. But when you are busy building, keeping, and discovering friendships, it helps to have it available when you want.
